The Staff Engineer, as the deputy of the Chief Engineer, holds significant responsibilities within the Engine department:

  1. Designated Maintenance Officer: Organizing, executing, and supervising all necessary maintenance and repair works in collaboration with the Chief Electrician, Facility Manager, and HVAC engineer.

  2. Communication and Reporting: Maintaining effective communication and reporting to all relevant stakeholders regarding technical operations and maintenance activities.

  3. Operation of Technical Equipment: Ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of all technical equipment in the engine room and related areas.

  4. Engine Resource Management (ERM): Implementing and ensuring compliance with ERM standards among subordinates.

  5. Compliance: Adhering to all relevant flag state, class, and other applicable regulations, as well as fulfilling responsibilities outlined in the Environmental Compliance Plan.

  6. Daily Meetings: Conducting the daily engine officer’s morning meeting to coordinate tasks and address any concerns.

  7. Personnel Management: Assigning, instructing, and guiding personnel, delegating work orders and tasks, and setting up rotation plans for crew members.

  8. HESS-MS Enforcement: Enforcing HESS-MS regulations within the department and conducting or delegating relevant training as necessary.

  9. Documentation: Making relevant entries into the engine logbook, oil record book, and other required documents according to legislation and company requirements.

  10. Planned Maintenance System (PMS): Overseeing the PMS, carrying out assigned maintenance duties, and updating maintenance data accordingly.

  11. Spare Parts Management: Controlling spare part requests, verifying deliveries, and ensuring appropriate stock levels in main and auxiliary machinery store rooms.

  12. Quality and Learning Management: Complying with Quality Management System (QMS) and Learning Management System (LMS) requirements.

  13. Support to Human Resources: Assisting the Facility Manager and Chief Electrician with human resources management if needed.

  14. Dry Docks and Repairs: Planning, evaluating, and overseeing dry docks and external repair/service activities.

  15. Health and Safety: Supporting an effective and sustainable health and safety culture on board, strictly following HESS regulations, and reporting any violations to the Head of Departmen
